Apprenticeship: Engineering Maintenance Technician Level 3
We’re looking for an Engineering Apprentice to join our maintenance team at our North Scarle site.
This is an opportunity to learn the ropes inside a fast-paced, automated food production environment while completing a recognised engineering apprenticeship. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers, helping to keep production running smoothly while building the technical skills needed to become a multi-skilled maintenance engineer.
This role is about learning first, contributing second, and mastering the craft over time.
What You’ll Be Doing
Working under the guidance of experienced engineers, you’ll support a wide range of maintenance and engineering activities, including:
Assisting with breakdown response and fault finding
Supporting planned preventative maintenance (PPM)
Learning to interpret electrical and mechanical drawings
Supporting installation and commissioning of new equipment
Developing an understanding of PLCs and automation fault diagnostics
Assisting with engineering documentation and records
Taking part in continuous improvement projects to help improve OEE
Attending team meetings and contributing ideas
Maintaining high standards of hygiene and GMP compliance
You won’t be expected to work independently until you’ve demonstrated competence and completed the required sign-offs.
Health & Safety
Safety is the baseline in food manufacturing — not a bonus.
As an apprentice, you’ll be expected to:
Follow all site Health & Safety procedures
Complete all required training
Work under supervision during maintenance activities
Report hazards, near misses, or unsafe conditions immediately
Follow clean-as-you-go and food hygiene standards
Wear appropriate PPE at all times
Learning & Development
Alongside your day-to-day role, you’ll complete a recognised Engineering Apprenticeship and work towards relevant technical qualifications.
You’ll build practical knowledge and experience in:
Mechanical maintenance
Electrical systems
Pneumatics and hydraulics
Automation and control systems
Food safety and compliance
You’ll also attend college or training provider sessions as required, with regular progress reviews from the Engineering Manager and your training provider.
What We’re Looking For
GCSEs (or equivalent) in Maths and English (Grade 4/C or above preferred)
A genuine interest in engineering or manufacturing
A practical, problem-solving mindset
Willingness to learn in a hands-on environment
Good communication skills
Reliability and punctuality
Why Join Us?
You’ll gain real-world engineering experience in a modern production environment, supported by a team that wants to see you succeed.
No fluff. No being left to figure it out alone. Just proper hands-on learning, solid support, and the chance to build a long-term career in engineering.
